Universitas Airlangga Hosts the 5th National Student Leaders on Sustainability Meeting: Mangrove Action for Coastal Ecosystem Restoration

SDGs News — Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR), through the Airlangga Institute of Sustainable Community Impact (Lembaga Pengabdian Masyarakat Berkelanjutan/LPMB), proudly hosted the national event “The 5th National Student Leaders on Sustainability Meeting: Community Service Restoring the Coastal Ecosystem with Mangrove Action" 14/10/2025.

The event brought together student representatives from universities across Indonesia to collaborate on environmental conservation initiatives, focusing on coastal ecosystem restoration through mangrove planting at the Wonorejo Mangrove Area, Surabaya.

Collaborative Learning and Environmental Action

Before the mangrove planting activity, participants joined a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) session on the ecological and global benefits of mangroves, which highlighted their crucial role in mitigating climate change, protecting coastal biodiversity, preventing erosion, and maintaining water quality. The session encouraged students to connect scientific understanding with community-based action, strengthening awareness of how local efforts contribute to planetary sustainability.

The program was attended by Prof. Hery Purnobasuki, M.Si., PhD, Head of the Airlangga Institute of Sustainable Community Impact, along with his leadership team, and Yunita Suci Amalia, Environmental Impact Control Officer from the East Java Provincial Environmental Agency (DLH). Their involvement underscored the strong synergy between universities, government institutions, and youth leaders in advancing sustainability goals.

Commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

Through this initiative, Universitas Airlangga reaffirmed its strong commitment to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The mangrove restoration effort supports SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation) by improving water quality through the natural filtration provided by mangrove roots, which trap sediments and absorb pollutants. It advances SDG 13 (Climate Action) by increasing carbon absorption and strengthening coastal resilience against the impacts of climate change. At the same time, the activity contributes to SDG 14 (Life Below Water) by restoring breeding grounds for fish and marine species and revitalizing biodiversity vital to coastal livelihoods, and it supports SDG 15 (Life on Land) through soil conservation and sustainable land management.

Restoring Balance Between People and Nature

More than a symbolic gesture, the collaborative mangrove action reflects UNAIR’s enduring vision of harmony between people and nature. It demonstrates the power of youth-led environmental stewardship and community service in safeguarding the planet’s ecosystems—showing that real change begins with collective action, one coastline at a time.

7th Mangrove Festival: UNAIR Academic Community and Alumni Take Action to Advance SDGs in East Java

SDGs Center - Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR), in collaboration with the East Java Provincial Government, held a community engagement program entitled the 7th Mangrove Festival 2025. The event took place on Tuesday (August 19, 2025) at Tambak Bahak Beach, Curah Dringu Village, Tongas District, Probolinggo Regency. The Mangrove Festival has been organized annually since 2022, focusing on climate change mitigation and coastal ecosystem restoration. To date, the program has reached one city and five regencies in East Java. This year, Probolinggo was chosen as the host due to its strategic position in strengthening the coastal green belt in central East Java.

UNAIR was represented by faculty members and students from the Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Dental Medicine, Faculty of Vocational Studies, and UNAIR’s SDGs Center, supported by the Alumni Association (IKA UNAIR). They actively participated in planting thousands of mangrove seedlings, releasing waterbirds and crabs, and providing free healthcare services for coastal communities. This multi-stakeholder collaboration supports SDG achievements both at the university and provincial levels. For UNAIR, the initiative reinforces contributions to SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), SDG 14 (Life Below Water), SDG 15 (Life on Land), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). For East Java Province, it aligns with the Regional Action Plan (RAD) for SDGs, which prioritizes coastal conservation and improved livelihoods for local fishers.

Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, and Alumni of UNAIR, Prof. Mochammad Amin Alamsjah, emphasized the importance of this initiative. “We need to jointly address pollution in aquatic ecosystems. Mangroves play a critical role in determining the quality of coastal green belts. By engaging both the academic community and alumni, UNAIR is not only active in the academic sphere but also delivers real solutions for society,” he stated. He added that Probolinggo was chosen for its potential to disseminate best practices in mangrove restoration. “From this central point, we can replicate and expand the success model to other coastal regions across East Java,” he continued.

The Governor of East Java, Khofifah Indar Parawansa, underscored that planting mangroves can be seen as an oxygen charity. In addition to absorbing carbon and preventing coastal abrasion, mangrove ecosystems provide natural habitats for fish and crabs, which boost local fishers’ productivity. "With the existence of mangroves, fishers no longer need to go far out to sea to catch fish. This will improve coastal communities’ welfare and contribute to SDG 1 (No Poverty) and SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) in East Java,” she explained.

UNAIR’s involvement in the 7th Mangrove Festival demonstrates the university’s strong commitment to advancing sustainability agendas, both at the campus and provincial levels. Through collaborative action involving academia, government, the private sector, and communities, this initiative strengthens East Java’s position as a proactive province in achieving the SDGs.

Batu, 26 Juli 2025 – Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) kembali menunjukkan komitmennya terhadap pelestarian lingkungan melalui program Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat (Pengmas) yang digelar di Arboretum Sumber Brantas, kawasan hulu dari Sungai Brantas yang menjadi sumber utama air bersih bagi jutaan penduduk di Jawa Timur. Mengusung tema “Akar Brantas, Nafas Jawa Timur: Sinergi Alam dan Air untuk Kehidupan Berkelanjutan”, kegiatan ini menjadi bukti nyata sinergi lintas sektor untuk menjaga keberlangsungan ekosistem Sungai Brantas.

Dalam kegiatan ini, SDGs Center UNAIR turut serta dan berperan aktif dalam kolaborasi kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat bersama LPPM UNAIR, khususnya dalam upaya konservasi wilayah hulu Sungai Brantas. Fokus utama UNAIR melalui SDGs Center adalah mengimplementasikan aksi nyata terhadap Tujuan Pembangunan Berkelanjutan (TPB), terutama SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), SDG 13 (Climate Action), dan SDG 17 (Partnership for the Goals).

Turut hadir dan berkolaborasi dalam kegiatan ini adalah Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR), Universitas Negeri Surabaya (UNESA), Universitas Brawijaya (UB), Universitas Negeri Malang (UM), dan Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), bersama mitra strategis seperti Perum Jasa Tirta, PDAM Surya Sembada dari beberapa Kabupaten/ Kota di Jawa Timur, Pemerintah Kota Batu, DLH Provinsi Jawa Timur, PT HM Sampoerna, dan Perumda Kota Malang. Kegiatan penanaman pohon ini diinisiasi sebagai bagian dari upaya konservasi kawasan hulu Sungai Brantas, yang selama ini menjadi penopang kebutuhan air masyarakat di berbagai wilayah termasuk Kota Malang, Blitar, Tulungagung, Kediri, hingga Surabaya.

Menurut Prof. Gadis dari LPPM UNAIR, program ini merupakan bagian dari kolaborasi PTN-BH dan telah dirancang sejak awal untuk dijalankan secara berkelanjutan. Kegiatan ini juga menjadi kelanjutan dari upaya sebelumnya, seperti program ‘Brantas Tuntas’, yang akan diperluas skalanya. UNAIR telah menjadi koordinator program konservasi lingkungan ini dan akan terus melakukan keberlanjutan program di hilir Sungai Brantas pada bulan Agustus 2025 mendatang sebagai bagian dari rencana untuk menghidupkan kembali program lingkungan skala besar seperti Brantas Tuntas dan Citarum Harum.

Sebagai simbol konservasi, jenis pohon yang ditanam di Arboretum Sumber Brantas termasuk Kayu Manis, Kesemek, dan Cemara, yang diharapkan mampu menjaga ekosistem serta meningkatkan kualitas penyerapan air tanah di kawasan tersebut. Arboretum ini juga dibuka untuk kegiatan penelitian yang mendukung agenda konservasi. Kegiatan ditutup dengan harapan agar kolaborasi ini menjadi fondasi kuat dalam menjamin ketersediaan air bersih di masa depan serta menjaga kelangsungan ekosistem Sungai Brantas.

UNAIR Initiates Tree-Planting Program at the Brantas River Headwaters: Synergy of Nature and Water for a Sustainable Future

Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR), in collaboration with several universities and strategic partners, held a community engagement program through a tree-planting event at the Sumber Brantas Arboretum in Batu City, East Java. Themed "Akar Brantas, Nafas Jawa Timur: Synergy of Nature and Water for Sustainable Life," the initiative aims to preserve the conservation area at the upstream of the Brantas River, a vital water source for millions of people in East Java.

This initiative brought together multi-sector collaboration, including five legal-entity state universities (PTN-BH) in East Java—UNAIR, Universitas Negeri Surabaya (UNESA), Universitas Brawijaya (UB), Universitas Negeri Malang (UM), and Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS)—alongside strategic partners such as Perum Jasa Tirta (PJT), PDAM Surya Sembada, Perumda Tugu Tirta, PT HM Sampoerna, the Environmental Agencies (DLH) of Batu City and East Java Province, and the Batu City Government.

In his remarks, Agung Nugroho from Perum Jasa Tirta emphasized the importance of sustainable water resource management. “The Brantas River plays a crucial role in raw water supply, flood control, and hydroelectric power generation. Conservation at the upstream is key to preserving these essential functions,” he stated. He also noted that the arboretum is home to trees such as pine, cinnamon, and persimmon and is open for conservation research.

Nanang Widyatmoko from PDAM Surya Sembada added that 93% of Surabaya’s drinking water supply depends on the Brantas River. However, declining water quality and shifting rainfall patterns present new challenges that must be addressed collectively. “Collaboration with universities like UNAIR and ITS is vital in developing research-based solutions,” he affirmed.

From UNAIR, Prof. Gadis, Chair of the Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM), explained that this activity is part of a long-term national program initiated by the Directorate of Research and Community Service (DRPM) and LPPM, involving all PTN-BH. “Our current focus is the upstream Brantas. In August or September, the program will continue downstream, including in Surabaya. This marks the revival of initiatives like Brantas Tuntas on a larger scale,” she stated.

She concluded with an inspiring message: “There is nothing more important than ensuring that the Brantas River stays alive and continues to benefit all communities in East Java.”

This activity reflects UNAIR’s commitment to fostering multi-stakeholder collaboration for environmental and water ecosystem sustainability and represents a concrete contribution to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation) and SDG 13 (Climate Action).

UNAIR Gagas Penanaman Pohon di Hulu Sungai Brantas: Sinergi Alam dan Air untuk Masa Depan Berkelanjutan

SDGs Center - Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) bersama sejumlah perguruan tinggi dan mitra strategis menggelar kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat berupa penanaman pohon di Arboretum Sumber Brantas, Kota Batu, Jawa Timur, dengan tema “Akar Brantas, Nafas Jawa Timur: Sinergi Alam dan Air untuk Kehidupan Berkelanjutan.” Kegiatan ini bertujuan menjaga kelestarian kawasan konservasi hulu Sungai Brantas sebagai sumber kehidupan bagi jutaan penduduk di Jawa Timur.

Inisiatif ini melibatkan kolaborasi lintas sektor, termasuk lima perguruan tinggi negeri (PTN) berbadan hukum di Jawa Timur—UNAIR, Universitas Negeri Surabaya (UNESA), Universitas Brawijaya (UB), Universitas Negeri Malang (UM), dan Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS)—serta mitra strategis seperti Perum Jasa Tirta (PJT), PDAM Surya Sembada, Perumda Tugu Tirta, PT HM Sampoerna, DLH Kota Batu dan Provinsi Jatim, serta Pemerintah Kota Batu.

Nanang Widyatmoko dari PDAM Surya Sembada menambahkan bahwa 93% pasokan air minum Surabaya bergantung pada Brantas. Namun, penurunan kualitas air dan perubahan pola hujan menimbulkan tantangan baru yang harus ditangani bersama. “Kolaborasi dengan perguruan tinggi seperti UNAIR dan ITS sangat penting untuk merumuskan solusi berbasis riset,” tegasnya.

Sementara itu, Prof. Unti, perwakilan dari UB, menyoroti bahwa Sungai Brantas mengaliri 17 kabupaten/kota di Jawa Timur, sehingga sinergi antar daerah dan lembaga menjadi keharusan. “Konsorsium 5 PTN-BH Jawa Timur siap berkontribusi nyata dalam menjaga keberlanjutan Brantas,” ujarnya.

Dari UNAIR, Prof. Gadis, Ketua LPPM, menjelaskan bahwa kegiatan ini merupakan bagian dari agenda jangka panjang DRPM dan LPPM yang menggandeng PTN-BH secara nasional. “Fokus kami saat ini adalah hulu Sungai Brantas. Pada Agustus atau September nanti, program akan berlanjut di hilir, termasuk Surabaya. Upaya ini menjadi awal kebangkitan program seperti Brantas Tuntas dalam sekala yang lebih besar," ujarnya.

“Tidak ada yang lebih penting dari memastikan bahwa Sungai Brantas tetap hidup dan memberikan manfaat bagi seluruh masyarakat Jawa Timur".

UNAIR Meraih Penghargaan Peringkat ke-9 Dunia THE Impact 2025

Koordinator Tim Ahli SDGs, A. Safril Mubah, mewakili UNAIR menerima penghargaan THE Impact Ranking ke-9 dunia.

Universitas Airlangga meraih prestasi gemilang dengan menduduki peringkat ke-9 dunia THE Impact 2025. Pencapaian itu juga menempatkan UNAIR pada posisi pertama di Indonesia dan Asia Tenggara serta ke-2 di Asia dalam dampak perguruan tinggi terhadap Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Prestasi ini mencerminkan kontribusi signifikan UNAIR pada 17 poin SDGs. Di antara 17 poin tersebut, UNAIR juga mendapatkan pengakuan dunia atas pencapaian peringkat pertama SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), peringkat ke-3 SDG 1 (No Poverty), peringkat ke-4 SDG 5 (Gender Equality), dan peringkat ke-29 SDG 17 (Partnership for the Goals).

Dalam pernyataan resminya pada 18 Juni 2025, Times Higher Education (THE) memuji UNAIR sebagai institusi paling berkelanjutan dari negara ekonomi berkembang. Pujian itu wajar didapatkan oleh UNAIR mengingat peringkat UNAIR melonjak signifikan dari ke-81 dunia (2024) ke-9 dunia (2025). Atas prestasi tersebut, THE memberikan penghargaan secara langsung kepada UNAIR dalam Global Sustainable Development Congress (GSDC) di Istanbul, Turki, pada 16-19 Juni 2025. A. Safril Mubah, Koordinator Tim Ahli SDGs UNAIR, mewakili UNAIR menerima penghargaan yang diberikan secara langsung oleh Julie Wilkens McMahon, Vice President THE dan Direktur Kawasan Asia Pasifik.

Dalam pertemuan dengan Safril, Julie memandang UNAIR telah menampilkan performa fantastis dalam THE Impact Rankings. “Congratulations to UNAIR for such a wonderful achievement!,” kata Julie. Safril menyambut baik apresiasi tersebut dan mendorong untuk meningkatkan kolaborasi secara berkelanjutan di masa depan. Dia mengungkapkan bahwa UNAIR berhasil meraih peringkat ke-9 dunia berkat kontribusi semua pihak di UNAIR yang saling berkolaborasi secara sinergis untuk memberikan dampak positif signifikan terhadap pencapaian tujuan pembangunan berkelanjutan. “Kami mengucapkan terima kasih kepada semua sivitas akademika UNAIR yang telah berperan aktif dalam pengajaran, penelitian, dan pengabdian dalam berbagai bidang yang sejalan dengan SDGs. Penghargaan ini merupakan bukti bahwa UNAIR telah menjalankan program yang berdampak luas bagi peningkatan kualitas hidup masyarakat,” ujar Safril.

THE mengumumkan UNAIR sebagai perguruan tinggi peringkat ke-9 dunia THE Impact Ranking 2025 pada Global Sustainbale Development Congress di Istanbul, 16-19 Juni 2025.

Prestasi UNAIR mencapai peringkat ke-9 THE Impact menempatkan institusi pendidikan Indonesia sebagai aktor penting pencapaian tujuan pembangunan berkelanjutan pada tingkat global. Keunggulan UNAIR dalam SDG 6 menggambarkan komitmen Indonesia dalam penyediaan air bersih untuk kebutuhan masyarakat dunia. Melalui pencapaian global ini, UNAIR membuktikan peran strategisnya sebagai perguruan tinggi yang berkontribusi besar dalam penyelesaian aneka permasalahan yang dihadapi masyarakat.

SDGs Ambassador UNAIR 2023 Hansel Alexander, Sampaikan Materi Daring tentang SDG 6 dan SDG 12 pada AIESEC IN UNHAS

SDGs Centre UNAIR - Hansel Alexander, Mahasiswa Farmasi Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) dan SDGs Ambassador UNAIR terpilih tahun 2023, memberikan materi secara daring tentang SDG 6 dan SDG 12 dalam acara "Exploring SDG 6 & SDG 12" yang diselenggarakan oleh AIESEC IN UNHAS. Acara ini diikuti oleh 60 peserta yang antusias untuk memperdalam pemahaman mereka tentang tujuan pembangunan berkelanjutan (SDGs).

Melalui platform online ZOOM MEETING, Hansel memulai dengan pengenalan umum tentang SDGs, menjelaskan pentingnya tujuan-tujuan ini bagi pembangunan global yang berkelanjutan. Ia kemudian memberikan penjelasan rinci tentang SDG 6, yang berfokus pada akses air bersih dan sanitasi, serta SDG 12 yang menekankan pada konsumsi dan produksi yang bertanggung jawab.

"Ketersediaan air bersih dan sanitasi yang layak masih menjadi tantangan besar, terutama di wilayah-wilayah terpencil. Konsumsi dan produksi yang bertanggung jawab sangat penting untuk menjaga keberlanjutan sumber daya alam kita," jelas Hansel kepada para peserta.

Hansel juga menyoroti isu-isu lokal terkait SDGs 6 dan 12 di Sulawesi Selatan, seperti masih minimnya akses air bersih di beberapa daerah dan masalah pengelolaan limbah. Ia menekankan bahwa isu-isu ini memerlukan perhatian dan tindakan segera, mengingat komplikasi dan urgensi yang ada.

"Peran kita semua sangat penting dalam mengatasi tantangan ini. Setiap langkah kecil yang kita ambil bisa membawa perubahan besar," ujarnya, mengajak peserta untuk aktif berpartisipasi dalam mencapai tujuan-tujuan ini.

Mengakhiri sesi, Hansel memberikan call to action kepada peserta, mendorong mereka untuk mulai bertindak dari hal-hal kecil di lingkungan sekitar mereka demi masa depan yang lebih baik.

By incoporating advanced water-saving technologies and sustainable infrastructure across campus, UNAIR significantly reduces its water consumption, supporting both regional and global environmental goals. This commitment is in line with SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), reflecting UNAIR's dedication to promoting eco-friendly practices in higher education.

Innovative Water-Saving Fixtures and Monitoring Systems

UNAIR has equipped over 80% of campus restrooms with automatic, sensor-activated faucets and water-efficient toilets, which minimize water usage by delivering only the necessary amount. This technology helps avoid water waste, enhancing efficiency across campus facilities. These installations reflect UNAIR's alignment with Greenship and LEED standards, which prioritize water efficiency in green building practices. Regular maintenance and monitoring ensure that these systems function at peak performance, further optimizing water conservation.

Rainwater Harvesting and Reuse for Sustainable Landscaping

All major buildings on campus are equipped with rainwater harvesting systems, which capture rainwater for non-potable uses, such as land irrigation. This innovative system conserves municipal water resources by repurposing natural rainfall to nourish UNAIR's green spaces. The rainwater collections systems are strategically integrated across the campus, significantly reducing the university's reliance on external water supplies and supporting its broader environmental mission.

Permeable Surfaces to Enhance Groundwater Recharge

To complement its water-saving infrastructure, UNAIR has integrated permeable surfaces in parking lots and walkways. These surfaces allow rainwater to permeate into the ground, naturally replenishing groundwater supplies and preventing runoff, which can cause erosion and flooding. This approach aligns with UNAIR's commitment to eco-friendly infrastructure, maximizing environmental benefits while maintaining a sustainable campus landscape.

Water Recycling Systems

UNAIR has also implemented water recycling systems in select buildings, where gray water from sinks and showers is treated and reused for toilet flushing and landscape irrigation. This recycling system supports UNAIR's goal to minimize water waste while providing sustainable alternatives for non-potable water needs. The water recycling initiative is an integral part of the university's long-term commitment to resource conservation and aligns with both Greenship LEED guidelines for sustainable water management.

Educational Programs Promote Campus-Wide Water Conservation

Beyond its infrastructure, UNAIR actively promotes water-saving behaviors through educational programs. UNAIR Wastewater Recycling and Sustainable Water Management

Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) is stepping up its commitment to environmental sustainability by implementing a comprehensive wastewater treatment system across its campuses. This initiative is part of the UNAIR's broader effort to promote sustainable water management and reduce its environmental impact.

Wastewater generated from various campus activities – including toilets, sinks, canteens, mosques, and laboratories – is treated through dedicated Waste Water Treatment Plants (WWTP) located at 3 main buildings. On average, 20 cubic meters of wastewater is collected daily, which undergoes a seven-step treatment process to ensure safety and sustainability.

The treatment process includes sedimentation, neutralization with calcium, and biological treatment using specific bacteria, ensuring that the treated water is safe for discharge or reuse. Reclaimed water is reused for toilet flushing and plant irrigation, significantly reducing water consumption across the campuses.

In addition to general wastewater treatment, UNAIR has also implemented systems for recycling water used in specific areas. Since 2021, UNAIR’s Faculty of Pharmacy has also operated its own WWTP to manage wastewater independently. This facility treats liquid waste from laboratories and toilets, ensuring that harmful substances are removed and the water can be safely reused.

Moreover, in 2023, UNAIR began the construction of a communal wastewater treatment facility with a capacity of 40 cubic meters near the rectorate building. This expansion will enhance UNAIR’s ability to handle wastewater efficiently and reduce the negative environmental impact on local ecosystems.

The benefits of UNAIR’s wastewater management efforts go beyond environmental protection. The system also provides opportunities for education and research on water treatment technologies, positioning the university on environmental sustainability. As part of its commitment, UNAIR continuously evaluates and improves its wastewater treatment processes to ensure optimal performance and minimal environmental footprint

These initiatives promote conscious water usage and provide local residents with sustainable solutions for managing water resources effectively.

Smart Farming for Water Efficiency in Agriculture

In Karangploso village, Pasuruan, UNAIR's through Faculty of Advanced Technology and Multidiscipline (FTMM) students organized on IoT-based smart farming technology. The campaign introduced local farmers to solar-powered hydroponic systems that automatically manage water and nutrient delivery, helping reduce water consumption and optimize resource use. These effiecnt, automated systems demonstrate how water-wsie practices can be integrated into daily agricultural processes, empowering farmers to achieve higher yields with reduced water usage. The project encourages the adoption of green and smart farming practices, reinforcing sustainable agriculture and providing replicable model for water

Community-Based Total Sanitation in Tamanbaru Village, Banyuwangi

In partnership with local stakeholders, UNAIR's Faculty of Helath, Medicine, and Natural Sciences have led Community-Based Total Sanitation (STBM) verification for over 550 families in Tamanbaru Village, Banyuwangi.This initiative addresses comprehensive water safety and sanitation, focusing on clean water management, food safety, and household wastewater. By educating households on water conservation, wastewater handling, and sanitation practices, UNAIR's STBM program improves health and sanitation standards while fostering long-term water stewardship within the community. These sanitation practices support sustainable water management and significantly reduce health risk associated with inadequate sanitation.

Ranwater Harvesting Installation on Gili Iyang Island

Recognizing the need for sustainable water sources on Gili Iyang Island, Madura, UNAIR’s Faculty of Science and Technology constructed a rainwater harvesting system with a capacity of over 2,000 liters. This system provides clean water for essential needs such as bathing, washing, and ablution, reducing the island’s dependence on external water sources. By capturing and filtering rainwater, UNAIR has created a sustainable model for communities facing water scarcity, underscoring its commitment to promoting self-sufficiency and water security.
