Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) is leading the way in addressing campus food security with various innovative programs to prevent hunger among students and staff. Recognizing the critical importance of accessible, nutritious food, UNAIR has developed a multifaceted approach that aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 2 (Zero Hunger) by offering affordable meals, regular food distributions, and dedicated food pantries.

In collaboration with Airlangga Bangun Persada (ABADA), UNAIR provides affordable, healthy meals at Airlangga Eatery and other campus dining locations. With prices between Rp 13,000 and Rp 18,000, students and staff have access to nutritious, budget-friendly meal options such as grilled chicken with vegetables, vegetarian stir-fry, and traditional Indonesian dishes. This initiative ensures a consistent supply of wholesome meals, fostering the health and well-being of the UNAIR community.

UNAIR’S Rector’s Decree No. 333/UN3/2020

Further supporting food security for staff, UNAIR’S Rector’s Decree No. 333/UN3/2020 mandates a monthly meal allowance ranging from Rp 35,000 to Rp 37,000. Staff also receive a monthly meal quota that can be redeemed at various campus food outlets, ensuring convenient and regular access to meals.

UNAIR’s commitment to alleviating hunger is reinforced through weekly food distribution events held on Fridays, where free meals are provided to both students and staff. Additionally, during the annual Dies Natalis celebrations, UNAIR distributes thousands of free meals as part of the university’s tradition of community support and shared well-being.

As an extra measure, UNAIR has established a campus food pantry stocked with non-perishable items for students and staff in need. The food pantry ensures that no member of the UNAIR community goes hungry, offering accessible resources in times of need.

To continually improves these initiatives, UNAIR regularly evaluates its programs through surveys and feedback, adapting to the needs of its community. By providing varied meal options that cater to dietary preferences, UNAIR reinforces its commitment to a supportive campus environment and models sustainability through programs designed to meet nutritional needs for all.

UNAIR’s proactive steps to alleviate hunger on campus set a standard for universities and contribute significantly to SDG 2 goals. By ensuring that nutritious food is both accessible and affordable, UNAIR continues to build a sustainable campus culture, where food security is foundational to the university experience.
