SDGs UNAIR NEWS – World leaders have agreed to create a global action plan to end poverty, reduce inequality and protect protection, this is stated in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In one of its points, the SDGs raise gender equality as something that needs to be fought for. Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) is advancing gender equality through initiatives that empower female students. Notably, the university has achieved a remarkable 20% participation rate for female students in such on activities designed to increase their involvement and growth. 

The Student Executive Board of the Faculty of Economics and Business (BEM FEB) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) held a Community Service activity entitled Social Action. The activity with the theme "Break the Stereotype, Everyone Can Do Anything" was held on Friday (11/11) in the Notonegoro Fajar Hall.

"Social Action as a forum for students to implement a social spirit and a sense of concern for issues around this year raises the theme of gender equality," explained the chief executive of Social Action, Neny Mei Linawati.

According to him, the issue of gender equality is an issue that cannot be underestimated because it can affect development and economic growth. Seeing this, it is hoped that by making the public aware of this issue, it can develop the Indonesian economy for the better.

“Gender equality has a strong positive impact on GDP per capita which grows over time. "Improvements in gender equality will result in additional labor market benefits that will benefit both women and men," he added.

In its activities, Social Action collaborates with the Srikandi Roda East Java Cooperative which is part of the Women's Online Ojek Love Movement. They were given training in the form of packaging and public speaking to support the cooperative's MSME production. Apart from that, the Financial Services Authority (OJK) was also present who also provided material regarding funding alternatives for MSMEs.

After this activity, it is hoped that gender discrimination will no longer occur, especially for women. Even so, women are expected to become human beings who grow independently and are able to be self-sufficient in the midst of globalization. In the future, female online motorcycle taxi drivers will also be able to support their families in various ways.

"The local community is expected to be able to increase their awareness regarding gender equality, to be able to compete in the world of work to improve their economy without considering gender," he concluded.
