SDGs News – Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) is taking significant steps to broaden educational access and inspire learning beyond its campuses, connecting with local schools and communities throughout East Java. Through a combination of faculty-led initiatives and voluntary student-run programs, UNAIR is actively promoting educational enrichment, particularly in underdeveloped regions.

One of the flagship initiatives involves faculty and students delivering tailored lectures and interactive demonstrations in local schools. These sessions, focusing on topics such as science, technology, and health, aim to spark curiosity and motivation among younger students. By providing firsthand exposure to advanced topics and UNAIR’s academic expertise, these activities seek to foster a lasting enthusiasm for learning and empower students to consider future studies in these fields.

In addition, the Airlangga Community Development Hub spearheads UNAIR’s outreach efforts in underdeveloped communities across East Java. This initiative brings essential resources and learning opportunities to areas with limited access to educational services. Through engaging reading programs, community members—especially young students—are encouraged to enjoy reading and expand their understanding of national heroes, promoting both literacy and a deepened sense of cultural pride.

Voluntary student-run programs also play a vital role in UNAIR’s outreach activities. These programs, led by committed students, include tutoring and mentorship schemes tailored for high school students in the region. By offering personalized academic support, UNAIR students not only assist their younger peers in excelling academically but also cultivate a sense of leadership, responsibility, and service within themselves.

AIRLANGGA COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT HUB 2023

Additionally, UNAIR students have provided mentorship to over 300 young participants through a structured leadership and responsibility program. In this program, high school students engage in weekly sessions that cover essential study skills, goal setting, and time management. Teachers from partner schools have reported an increase in student motivation, as well as noticeable improvements in classroom engagement and assignment completion rates.

SCOLAH UNAIR

SCOLAH (School of Airlangga in Harmony) - UNAIR Mengajar is a social movement under the auspices of the Student Executive (BEM) of Universitas Airlangga, committed to advancing primary education in Indonesia. With the mission of "Giving Hope, Spreading Inspiration, Building Dreams," this initiative focuses on impactful community service and innovative primary education solutions. SCOLAH aims to create a model for primary education that is not only effective but also serves as a blueprint for educational advocacy. The program also functions as a forum where students, student associations, and student movements at UNAIR who share a passion for primary education can collaborate and contribute meaningfully. Additionally, SCOLAH fosters synergy between UNAIR's academic community and government bodies to address the challenges of primary education in Indonesia, driving impactful change through collaboration and shared commitment.

UNAIR’s dedication to educational outreach reinforces its mission to contribute positively to society by making high-quality education accessible, inspiring youth, and addressing educational disparities. Through these programs, Universitas Airlangga continues to strengthen its bonds with local communities, fostering an environment of knowledge-sharing, development, and support.
