Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) is making bold strides toward energy sustainability with a comprehensive policy framework that mandates energy efficiency in all new construction and renovation projects. Guided by Rector's Decree Number 1074/UN3/2021, UNAIR has integrated stringent energy-saving standards across its campus, ensuring ecah project is designed to minimize environmental impact and align with global energy sustainability goals.

A Commitment to Energy-Efficient Standards and Smart Building Practices 

The university's policy framework includes PP-UNAIR-MUN-01-17, a guideline on smart building practices that integrates innovative technologies aimed at reducing energu use, along with Rector's Decree Number 1050/UN3/2021, which sets out principles for green campus management. UNAIR's adherence to the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) on energy efficiency reflects its commitment to maintaining nationally recognized standards in sustainable construction and design.

By establishing this policy infrastructure, UNAIR ensures that every aspect of campus infrastructure is managed with environmental responbility. Each new or renovated building adheres to these rigorous energy efficiency standards, creating a campus that serves as a model of responsible and sustainable design.

Solar Power and Renewable Energy Integration

In line with these policies, UNAIR has significantly invested in renewable energy, installing solar panel systems across multiple campus buildings. With a total installed capacity of 280.6 kilowatts peak (kWp), tehse panels are generate over 808,128 kWh of renewable electricity annually. Additionally, interverters installed alongside solar systems optimize the use of generated power, even for buildings still operating off-grid. This initiative no only reduces UNAIR's reliance on non-renewable energy sources but also sets and example of practical implementation of sustainable energy solutions on a university campus.

Advanced Energy-Saving Technologies and Green Features

UNAIR has implemented various smart systems to enhance energy efficiency across campus. LED lighting systems and automated controls have been installled in new and renovated buildings, using occupancy sensors and smart technology to prevent energy waste by adapting lighting and HVAC usage according to real-time needs. Additionally, water-saving sensors help reduce water consumption across facilities, contributing to broader resource conservation goals.

Vertical gardens installed on multiple buildings, including faculty halls, provide additional environmental benefits by naturally cooling interior spaces, improving air quality, and enhancing land-use efficiency. This green design is not only supports energy savings but also reflects UNAIR's holistic approach to building a more sustainable campus environment.
