Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) actively participates in cooperative planning to address climate change disasters and the risks associated with displacement, working closely with government agencies at both national and regional levels. A vital part of UNAIR's commitment is its involvement in the National Research Consortium on Climate Displacement. This consortium focuses on studying patterns of climate-induced displacement, helping guide strategies for managing displacement risks across borders and within Indonesia. This research directly supports national climate adaptation strategies and regional disaster preparedness initiatives.

UNAIR's Public Health students have collaborated with the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) to educate younger generations on climate-related risks. In a recent program, 75 elementary and junior high school students received training on disaster preparedness and risk reduction. These educational sessions emphasized practical responses to climate-related disasters and built awareness among young community members about the importance of resilience in facing environmental challenges.

In addition to on-the-ground disaster planning, UNAIR’s Faculty of Law plays a role in shaping climate change policy at the national level. Law students and faculty members have joined discussions focused on climate litigation and policy reform, collaborating with the Indonesian Supreme Court to address legal responses to climate-related cases. This collaboration is crucial for strengthening the legal framework that supports climate resilience and enables adaptive governance across Indonesia.

In Sigi District, Central Sulawesi, UNAIR joined a focus group with the Department of Environmental Affairs and BPBD, aiming to create a multi-hazard disaster mitigation plan. This program included developing localized response plans for natural disasters and training communities on practical adaptation strategies, making Sigi’s residents more resilient to environmental risks.

Through these collaborations, Universitas Airlangga demonstrates a robust commitment to climate resilience, focusing on both the immediate needs of disaster preparedness and the long-term impact of policy and research. These initiatives not only benefit local communities but also align with Indonesia’s national goals for sustainable climate adaptation and cross-sectoral cooperation in disaster management.
