Demonstrating a firm commitment to environmental sustainability, Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR0 has established a strategic energy efficiency plan aimed at reducing energy consumption and promoting cleaner energy sources across its campuses. Guided by Rector's Decree No. 1074/UN3/2021 and 1050/UN3/2021, UNAIR has implemented multiple initiatives focused on conservation, energy-efficient technologies, and renewable energy adoption to achieve substantial energy savings and lower emissions. UNAIR also has a net-zero carbon report which includes reports on energy use, programs to reduce energy consumption, and strategies implemented by UNAIR to become an eco-friendly campus.

Advanced Technologies for Optimized Energy Use

Building Automation Systems UNAIR

As part of its energy efficiency plan, UNAIR has introduced LED lighting, high-efficiency HVAC systems, and automated energy management systems across all campus facilities. These technologies minimize electricity consumption and reduce overall operational costs. A recent addition, the Building Automation System (BAS), integrated in 2022, further enhances energy conservation by automating key building functions, such as HVAC, lighting, fire alarms, and security alarms. This system optimizes energy use based on occupancy and environmental conditions, supporting both energy efficiency and user comfort. 

Increasing Renewable Energy Capacity

Wind Turbines

To reduce its reliance on conventional energy, UNAIR has installed solar panels on key campus buildings. These panels, connected to an advanced inverter, generate renewable energy and efficiently distribute it across campus, contributing to UNAIR's sustainability goals. Looking forward the future, UNAIR is exploring wind power options to diversify its renewable energy sources, with plans to install wind turbines capable of producing 10,000 watts. This investment will further reduce the university's carbon footprint and enhance the sustainable energy management in higher education.

Innovative Green Solutions for Energy Savings

Vertical garden UNAIR

UNAIR's energy efficiency plan also includes innovative green infrastructure aimed at enhancing land use and creating comfortable environments. Vertical garden are being incorporated into faculty buildings, cooling down interiors, improving air quality, and promoting sustainable land use. These installations align with UNAIR's broader goal of energy efficiency, reducing the need for excessive air conditioning and contributing to a healthier campus environment.
