SDGs Center UNAIR - The National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) estimated the total food waste in Indonesia to reach 20.9 million in 2021. This amount is decreasing from the previous year, which reached 23 million to 48 million metric tonnes from 2000 to 2019. The high amount of food waste in Indonesia causes multiple problems. In addition, it is the opposite of the situation in Indonesia, where poverty has become an important issue today. Also, hunger has been an unsolved problem for many years.

As a result, Universitas Airlangga is committed to continuing and supporting the zero-waste movement by monitoring the amount of waste produced by the university during each period. It was recorded that in 2021, Universitas Airlangga produced 56.8 metric tonnes of food waste with a total campus population of around 40 thousand people. This amount is down from food waste in 2019, which reached 143 tons.

The amount of food waste produced by Universitas Airlangga is expected to continue to decline every year to achieve the goal of SDG 2, "zero hunger." The university, by continuing to reduce food waste, hoped that the food needs of the entire campus population would be fulfilled and that the contribution of waste in Indonesia would be reduced, resulting in equal wellbeing for the entire society.

SDGs Center UNAIR - The National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) counted the total food waste in Indonesia reach to 23 million to 48 million tons per year from 2000 to 2019. The high amount of food waste in Indonesia causes multiple problems. In addition, it is the opposite proportional to the situation in Indonesia where poverty becomes the important issues today. Also, hunger has become unsolved problem for many years.

Reflect to it, Universitas Airlangga is committed to continue and support zero waste movement by monitoring the amount of waste produced by the university in each period. It was recorded that in 2019, Universitas Airlangga produced 143 tons of food waste with a total campus population of around 43 thousand people, so that at least one person produces 3-4 kg of food waste each year.

The amount of food waste produced by Universitas Airlangga is expected to continue to decline every year to achieve the goal of SDG 2, zero hunger. By continuing to reduce food waste, it is hoped that the food needs of all campus population would be fulfilled, and that the contribution of waste in Indonesia will be reduced, resulting in equal wellbeing for the entire society.

SDGs Center UNAIR - One product that is quite often sold by MSMEs, is food products. Starting from heavy meals to snacks with various variants of food, many existing MSME units have sold them. This is because food is one of the basic human needs every day to carry out activities optimally.

Universitas Airlangga attempts to always use local products for catering and canteen meals as part of its commitment to help improve the welfare of the community. BOGA is a department at Universitas Airlangga tasked with ensuring that food is obtained from local and sustainable sources. Furthermore, the Airlangga University canteen always ensures that processed food is sourced from the local traditional market.

SDGs Center UNAIR - Hunger is one of the most serious issues confronting almost every country on the planet. Many problem-solving or handling efforts have been made to address the hunger problem, one of which is the determination of the second point on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), i.e Zero Hunger or no hunger.

Universitas Airlangga is committed to achieving the second indicator of the Sustainable Development Goals, namely zero hunger or no hunger, by ensuring that everyone on campus has access to food that meets their needs and preferences. Sustainable food options are available on a variety of menus for everyone on campus, including vegetarian meals.
