Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) has made strides in sustainable landscaping by adopting water-efficient practices across its campus. To conserve water resources and maintain a green campus, UNAIR’s landscaping strategy includes the use of drought-tolerant plants and advanced irrigation technologies, minimizing water usage while enhancing campus aesthetics. UNAIR’s landscape design is built around water conservation, featuring drought-resistant plants that thrive with minimal irrigation. Selected species, such as Ficus Benjamina (Bailbong), Terminalia mantaly (Ketapang Varigata), and Handroanthus Chrysotrichus (Tabebuya), require little watering, particularly during dry seasons, reducing the campus's overall water footprint. The implementation of these water-efficient plants represents a sustainable approach to campus landscaping that conserves water without sacrificing greenery.

Childcare Facility for Students in Universitas Airlangga

PAUD Anak Ceria is the facility under the auspices of the faculty of psychology which was established in 1995. PAUD Anak Ceria provides childcare service, early childhood education programs, and kindergarten. There are separate rooms for infants and toddlers. In addition, children in early childhood education programs, kindergarten; infant and toddler in childcare can use the playground together without limitation.

The childcare facility is open for the public, lecturers, staff, and students. Universitas Airlangga communities can get a special price in the childcare center starting from IDR 700.000. This childcare center is located on Jl. Srikana no.51 Surabaya which makes it easier for the Airlangga community to use this facility.

Universitas Airlangga Enhances Community Engagement Through Accessible Sports Facilities

Universitas Airlangga provides free sport facilities open to the public. The facilities located on Campus A, B and Campus C consisted of Jogging Tracks, Basketball courts, and Ampli Theater. The jogging track facility opens everyday without paying any tickets. Besides, the new basketball court located in Campus B can be used for both students and people outside Universitas Airlangga. Another basketball facilities inside the Campus A, B and C area.

UNAIR apart is its unwavering dedication to inclusivity. Every facility isn't just open; it's accessible to children, the elderly, and individuals with disabilities. UNAIR doesn't just talk about inclusivity; it crafts spaces where everyone, regardless of age or ability, can engage in the joy of physical activity.

In a commendable move to promote community health and well-being, Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) has opened its sports facilities to the local community, providing access to schools and the general public. SDGs Center of Universitas Airlangga Has Received Visits from Two Universities to Benchmark about SDGs

UNAIR NEWS –SDGs Center of Universitas Airlangga received visits from two universities, Yogyakarta State University (UNY) on (29/11/2022) and Borneo Tarakan University on (22/11/2022). The agenda was sharing knowledge about the SDGs Center management and SDGs best practices at each campus.

The visit took place in the Balairua on the 4th floor, Campus C Universitas Airlangga. It was attended by the Executive Secretary Rector of Yogyakarta State University, namely Prof. Soni Nopembri, Ph.D.; the Head of the World Class University (WCU) team, namely Prof. Dr. M. Bruri Triyono; the coordinator for academic affairs; the university ranking team; and WCU student employment.

While in Kahuripan Room 301, the representatives from the University of Borneo Tarakan were the secretary of the Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM), namely Anang Sulistyo, S.P., M.P., and team, as well as the staff of the Bureau of Planning, Finance, Personnel, and General Affairs (BPKKU) of the University of Borneo Tarakan.

"Under the direction of the National SDGs Secretariat Bappenas, we were asked to benchmark the management of the SDGs Center to Universitas Airlangga," said Dr. Ratno Achyani, S.Pi., M.Sc., as the Head of the Study Center for Biodiversity in Border and Coastal Areas and Tropical Sea Coasts, Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) University of Borneo Tarakan.

From Universitas Airlangga, it was represented by Bayu Arie Fianto, SE., MBA., Ph.D as the Head of the SDGs Center; Hakim Zulkarnain, S.Kep., Ns., MSN., as Secretary of the SDGs Center; Yuni Sari Amalia, S.S., M.A., Ph.D as Secretary of the Planning and Development Board (BPP); Dr. Eng. Patmawati, S.Pi., M.Si., and Sa'idah Zahrotul Jannah, S.Si., M.Stat. as BPP Coordinator; Andi Hamim Zaidan, M.Sc, Ph.D as the Head of Life Science, Technology, and Engineering (LIHTR); dr. Niko Azhari Hidayat, Sp.BTKV(K) as Secretary of the Institute for Research and Community Development (LPPM).

"SDGs Center of Universitas Airlangga is still relatively new because it was only established in March 2022. Previously, we visited Bappenas to register our SDGs center, and we are included in the 26th PTN registered with Bappenas. Apart from that, we also brought reports related to SDGs activities at Airlangga University to be submitted to Bappenas," said the Head of the SDGs Center at Universitas Airlangga.

SDGs Center UNAIR - Universitas Airlangga supports SDG 13 goals to address climate change and take action to handle climate change and its impacts. One of the things to do is to consider energy growth and consumption growth by implementing a "decoupling" strategy (doing more with less energy). Currently, development in the field of renewable energy is utilising a 1 kWp solar home system installed on the roof of the Nanizar Zaman Joenoes Building, Campus C, Universitas Airlangga. There are a total of 13 units of solar panels in the university environment.

There are two solar panel systems in the university environment. The first is an on-grid solar panel system that is connected to PLN current and optimises energy from solar panels. Excess energy from solar panels will be converted into electricity bill savings. The on-grid solar panel system is used by the university to reduce the electrical load in the Joint Lecture Building Campus C (GKB C). Furthermore, the off-grid solar panel system, which is a system that only relies on sunlight as the only energy source that is used to convert sunlight into electrical energy, The system is also equipped with a battery to store excess energy. This system is used to turn on street lights in the Rectorate Building and the Postgraduate Building on Campus B. In a year Universitas Airlangga used 2211 GJ total low-carbon energy.

In order to optimise its commitment to 100% renewable energy, Universitas Airlangga also has an electric motor that uses electric fuel. Besides electric motorcycles, Universitas Airlangga also has seven units of electric bicycles. This electric bicycle can cover a distance of 50 km with a maximum speed limit of 30 km/h when the battery is fully charged. Amazingly, this electric bicycle is capable of carrying loads weighing more than 100 kilograms. Electric bicycles are equipped with headlights for lighting.

Universitas Airlangga also has a Delta-type charging station designed to allow e-bike users to recharge their batteries when they run out of power. This charging station can also be used to charge gadgets. This charging station is not connected to electricity from PLN, so it will not cause electricity costs to increase.

Support the Achievement of SDG 4, SDGs Center UNAIR Give Education to FTMM II TECHNOLOGY WEBINAR

SDGs NEWS - The Ministry of Science, Research, and Technology Student Executive Board (BEM) Faculty of Advanced Technology and Multidiscipline (FTMM) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) held AIRNOLOGY 1.0. The activity carries the theme "The Future Power: Renewable Resources as Stabilizing Instruments, Economy and Environment towards Global Security," which was held on 1/10/2022 through the Zoom Meetings platform.

With the theme "Millennial's role on advancing technology to achieve the SDGs", this webinar aims to provide education for the entire community, especially millennials, in utilizing technology as an effort to achieve the SDGs. The participants of the webinar consisted of all senior high school students in Indonesia as well as students, education staff, and lecturers from FTMM. On this occasion, BEM FTMM UNAIR invited Savira Rizma Yunita S.M. as the Internal Coordinator of SDGs Center Universitas Airlangga as a resource person. Savira delivered an explanation of the SDGs paradigm and its urgency to the contribution of millennials in implementing technology to achieve the SDGs.

Savira explained that in the SDGs there are 5Ps, namely (People, Planet, Prosperity, Peace, and Partnership), which are interrelated with each other. One way to achieve the SDGs by 2030 is to increase collaboration, both cross-sectoral collaboration and cross-country collaboration.

Furthermore, Savira explained the division of the 4 pillars of the SDGs initiated by the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas. These pillars include the pillars of economic development that focus on achieving quality economic growth; the social development pillar that focuses on achieving the fulfillment of quality basic human rights in a fair and equal manner; the environmental development pillar that focuses on achieving sustainable management of natural resources and the environment; and the pillars of legal development and governance that focus on realizing legal certainty and effective governance.

Savira also informed us about the dynamics and progress of achieving the SDGs in Indonesia. According to her, the implementation of the SDGs in Indonesia has experienced significant developments. As a university, Universitas Airlangga plays an active role in carrying out SDGs activities within the university and reporting on SDGs activities in the university's sustainability report.

At the end of the presentation, millennials are expected to have awareness, concern, and take real action in implementing SDGs activities in the surrounding environment.

MEKANISME SDGs AIRLANGGA INTERDISCIPLINARY LEARNING (SAIL) PROGRAM

Ketentuan Pengajuan Proposal
1. Satu proposal harus melibatkan dua fakultas serta bersedia untuk menyelenggarakan summer course yang mengacu pada tata kelola (governance) penyelenggaraan dengan baik, dan mempertanggungjawabkan penyelenggaraannya ke Universitas Airlangga;
2. Mengikutsertakan peserta internasional (melibatkan sebanyak mungkin negara mitra) paling sedikit 10 orang (bukan mahasiswa internasional yang sedang belajar di UNAIR);
3. Peserta disarankan untuk tidak dikenai biaya untuk meningkatkan minat tetapi keputusan diserahkan kepada penyelenggara dengan pertimbangan yang dianggap perlu.
4. Melibatkan paling sedikit dua dosen internasional dalam summer course program;
5. Melibatkan paling sedikit satu dosen UNAIR di luar prodi pengusul untuk mendorong pendekatan belajar interdisciplinary;
6. Bersedia menjaga keberlangsungan dan keberlanjutan program melalui pelembagaan aktivitas untuk memenuhi indikator keberhasilan program yang telah ditetapkan, dengan menjadikan summer course yang didanai menjadi program berkala yang secara reguler dilakukan (tahunan, dua tahunan, atau tiga tahunan);

Waterwheel Water Extraction Technology on Airlangga University Lake

SDGs Center UNAIR - Water Wheel technology procurement has a beneficial effect on UNAIR Lake. This water wheel is used to aerate the water. Living creatures in the lake environment, such as fish and aquatic plants, require aeration.

Aeration boosts oxygen levels in the water during the process, allowing the living organisms in it to develop in a healthy and rapid way.

Collaborating with Three Universities in Denmark, Universitas Airlangga SDGs Center Discusses SDGs Collaboration Opportunities

The SDGs Center meeting between Universitas Airlangga and three Danish universities was held on September 8, 2022. This meeting, held at the Sindang Reret Restaurant in Bandung, was a follow-up meeting after an online discussion in early August. The three Danish universities who attended this meeting were representatives from Aarhus University, Copenhagen Business School, and the University of Southern Denmark, while the SDGs Center of Universitas Airlangga was represented by the Chair, Program Development Coordinator, and one of the staff.

The discussion from this meeting led to opportunities for SDGs collaboration which had previously been discussed at the first meeting, one of which was the appointment of three parties at the University of Denmark to become experts on SDGs at Airlangga University. "We would like to invite you to be our expert on SDGs so we can work together to achieve the global goals. By another chance, we hope that we can also collaborate for the summer course." explained Bayu Arie Fianto, SE., MBA., Ph.D. as the Head of SDGs Center of Universitas Airlangga.

Hearing the appointment, the Danish University was very honored and interested in the initiation. Dr. Bjarne Lykke Sørensen from Copenhagen Business School responded, "Thank you for coming on such a long trip to come to Bandung to meet us. We are very glad to be appointed as SDGs experts at Universitas Airlangga. Of course, we will follow up first on our decision to accept this offer. Soon, we also hope to be able to visit Universitas Airlangga in Surabaya soon. Also, hopefully, we can do a summer course together between our universities later."

SDGs Experts of Universitas Airlangga from external parties are expected to actively participate in contributing ideas, directions, and intervene to provide concrete actions both to the academic community and the general public in achieving the SDGs by 2030 through collaboration with Airlangga University. In addition, with this meeting, it is hoped that the SDGs Center of Universitas Airlangga can collaborate further with the three universities in Denmark. That way, SDGs activities at Universitas Airlangga can have an impact not only on a national scale but also on a global scale.

Giving Public Lecture for ASN of Kediri Regency, Head of SDGs Center UNAIR Reminds SDGs is the Responsibility of All Parties

Head of the Kediri Regency Regional Personnel Agency (BKD), Dr Mohamad Solikin, fully supported the webinar entitled ASN Roles and Strategies in Achieving SDGs which was held through Zoom meeting and live YouTube on Friday (19/8/2022).

"We are invited to recall the commitment to the sustainable development goals (SDGs)," said Solikin.

Solikin told about a suicide case in Kediri Regency some time ago that disturbed his heart. He suspected there were several factors that caused the incident to occur. One of them is poverty. The SDGs with 17 goals raise the issue of No Poverty in Goal 1, so that the SDGs are increasingly relevant to regional development. "This is in accordance with our RPJM (Medium-Term Development Plan, ed)," said Solikin.

Solikin also reminded the importance of ASN learning SDGs goals as a means of increasing competence.

“We are very aware that to improve competence, we must continue to learn. Especially regarding the SDGs, such as the issue of recovery after the Covid-19 pandemic, and today's trend regarding the demographic bonus," said Solikin.

Head of SDGs Center UNAIR Bayu Arie Fianto SE MBA PhD in the webinar said that according to BAPPENAS, SDGs in Indonesia are divided into four pillars. “There are four pillars, ladies and gentlemen, namely the social, economic, environmental, and law and governance pillars".

The UNAIR Faculty of Business Economics lecturer also explained the differences between the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and SDGs and the parties that support them.

“The MDGs are only initiated by the government. Meanwhile, the SDGs are the responsibility of all parties, such as universities, NGOs, as well as companies/industry, and the media,” he said.

Bayu clearly explained the principles in the SDGs goals. "The three main principles are universal, integration, and no one left behind," explained Bayu.

Bayu gave detailed examples of the implementation of the SDGs in various countries in the world and their best practices. "Overseas, the focus of the SDGs is mostly on energy saving, such as in Scandinavian countries," he said.

Furthermore, Bayu repeatedly emphasized that the SDGs require the role of all parties. "It is not only the role of the government that is responsible for the SDGs but also all parties," explained Bayu. (*)
