The SDGs Center UNAIR actively joins the movement of leave no one behind effort by the United Nations. All of the Universitas Airlangga's outreach is inclusive for all communities especially the most vulnerable. The movement commemorated with a forum to launch a book titled "Those Not Left Behind".
In Jakarta, Indonesia, on March 21, the United Nations, along with the Indonesian Government and its partners, introduced a new book. This book tells 22 real-life stories that represent the heart of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which aim to make sure everyone is included in development efforts. The stories highlight the importance of reaching out to all parts of society, especially those who are often forgotten or left behind.
Valerie Julliard, who works with the United Nations in Indonesia, said, "Sustainable development means we all promise to help everyone, so no one gets left behind. These stories show how people's lives have changed for the better because of our efforts."
The book tells stories about everyday people who have made a difference, like firefighters in Riau and teachers in West Java. These stories show how the UN's work in Indonesia has had different impacts on people's lives.
Julliard added, "These stories are more than just stories of progress; they show how resilient and determined the Indonesian people are, and remind us that our main goal is to protect everyone's rights and dignity."
UN Those Not Left Behind
Indonesia is a big country with many challenges, but also many opportunities. The UN, along with its partners, helps the Indonesian government by giving advice and doing projects to help society as a whole.
Vivi Yulaswati, from Indonesia's Ministry of National Development, said, "This book lets 22 Indonesians share how their lives changed, thanks to the UN's helo. It uses information from a study to help us understand and break down barriers that keep some people from being included."
In addition to the book, the UN in Indonesia also released a study about helping people with disabilities in areas where they don't get much support. This study aims to help us learn more about their struggles and how we can all work together to make sure they are included in development efforts.
