Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) is committed to fostering a diverse, inclusive environment by taking planned actions to recruit students, staff, and faculty from underrepresented groups. Through a series of targeted initiatives and support programs, UNAIR ensures equal access to education and employment, championing inclusivity in academia.

Targeted Scholarships for Students from Underrepresented Regions

To support students from underrepresented and economically disadvantaged regions, UNAIR offers the ADik Scholarship, specifically designed to provide financial assistance to students from areas like Papua and East Indonesia. In 2023, 183 students from Papua received support through this program, which covers tuition fees, living expenses, and other education-related costs. This targeted approach not only enables students from remote areas to pursue higher education but also enriches campus diversity by bringing in unique regional perspectives.

Airlangga Inclusive Learning (AIL): Comprehensive Support for Disabled Students and Staff

Airlangga Inclusive Learning (AIL) plays a pivotal role in supporting students and staff with disabilities. AIL offers a range of essential services, including counseling, mobility assistance, and book digitisation, ensuring accessibility and academic success. UNAIR currently has 15 students and 12 staff members with diverse disabilities, such as visual impairments, speech disabilities, and physical challenges. AIL organizes disability awareness training and sign language courses to build a more inclusive environment on campus, fostering greater understanding and engagement within the university community.

Inclusive Recruitment and Accessibility for Staff and Faculty

Beyond student recruitment, UNAIR actively works to attract staff and faculty from diverse backgrounds. The university has taken steps to create accessible workspaces, such as disability-friendly infrastructure in key facilities, including a recently inaugurated lift designed to meet the needs of employees with physical disabilities. This structural support is complemented by inclusive hiring practices that prioritize candidates’ skills and qualifications over other characteristics, reinforcing UNAIR’s commitment to a fair and welcoming work environment for all.
