Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) has made strides in sustainable landscaping by adopting water-efficient practices across its campus. To conserve water resources and maintain a green campus, UNAIR’s landscaping strategy includes the use of drought-tolerant plants and advanced irrigation technologies, minimizing water usage while enhancing campus aesthetics. These efforts align with UNAIR’s commitment to Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6) and underscore its leadership in environmentally conscious campus management.

Drought-Tolerant Landscaping and Xeriscaping for Water Efficiency

UNAIR’s landscape design is built around water conservation, featuring drought-resistant plants that thrive with minimal irrigation. Selected species, such as Ficus Benjamina (Bailbong), Terminalia mantaly (Ketapang Varigata), and Handroanthus Chrysotrichus (Tabebuya), require little watering, particularly during dry seasons, reducing the campus's overall water footprint. The implementation of these water-efficient plants represents a sustainable approach to campus landscaping that conserves water without sacrificing greenery.
